Shanghai: Shanghai, the financial capital of China gears up to host the 7th China International Import Expo (#CIIE) from November 5 to 10, 2024, showing China’s commitment to opening its market to the world to support trade liberalization and economic globalization.

The first six trade expos named, CIIE, have seen the debut of nearly 2,500 new products, technologies, and services, with the cumulative value of intended transactions surpassing $420 billion.

In the CIIE2024, some 37 least developed countries will participate in the expo, and relevant departments will provide more than 120 free booths for these companies, Tang Wenhong, China’s Assistant Minister of Commerce, said at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

In order to implement the practical cooperation initiatives of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the area of the African Products Zone at this year’s expo will be further expanded, focusing on the exhibition of agricultural products with African characteristics, such as coffee, sesame seeds, peanuts and soybeans, etc., said Tang.

The relevant departments will organize docking talks between the non-exhibitors and Chinese buyers, which will help the two parties to conclude more purchase agreements and establish long-term cooperation.

The Hongqiao International Economic Forum 2024 will invite international organizations such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and guests from Ethiopia and other countries to hold a sub-forum on sustainable development in the Global South and China-Africa cooperation, to jointly promote South-South cooperation, organizers of global trade gathering stated.

“The CIIE has always adhered to the concept of a human community with a shared future and is committed to playing the role of an international public good, with a direct initiative to help enterprises from the least developed countries enter the Chinese market and integrate into the global economy.” Tang added.

For promotion and awareness of the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), a roadshow was held in London, UK, which was attended by over 100 representatives from British and Chinese business associations, enterprises and media organizations, according to a CIIE promotion event.

This promotion campaign is expected to cover more than 30 countries and regions.

The CIIE is a major event organized by China to support trade liberalization and economic globalization, showing China’s commitment to opening its market to the world, said Bao Ling, minister for economic and commercial Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom (UK), during the event.

The economies of China and the UK are highly complementary and there is a huge potential for closer cooperation, said Bao, calling on UK businesses to seize the opportunities at the 7th CIIE to sell to China.

Aiming to transform China’s vast market into global development opportunities, the previous six CIIEs have attracted participants from more than 180 countries, regions, and international organizations, said Ning Feng, president of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai).

British enterprises have always been keen participants in the CIIE. Nearly 50 UK companies, including HSBC, Burberry, Rio Tinto and Jaguar Land Rover join the expo each year, according to Ning.

Boosting economic development is at the top of the agenda for both Britain and China, and it is imperative that the world’s second and sixth largest economies continue to work together, said Lise Bertelsen, executive director of the China-Britain Business Council, on the sidelines of the promotion event.

“Activities such as the CIIE are an excellent opportunity for UK businesses – both those already active in China- as well as those who are new to the market,” said Bertelsen.

The CIIE is the world’s first national-level exposition dedicated to imports for the Chinese market.

Since its debut in 2018, the expo has become a showcase of China’s new development paradigm, a platform for high-standard opening up, and a public good for the whole world.

The previous five editions of CIIE have seen a total of 131 countries and international organizations participating in country exhibitions, with nearly 2,000 new products, technologies and services making their debuts and a combined intended turnover reaching nearly 350 billion U.S. dollars.
