Moscow: Russia and Pakistan have signed 8 bilateral documents in the fields of energy, education, medicine, trade at the 9th Meeting of the Russia-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation that concluded in Moscow on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Minister for Energy of Pakistan Sardar Awais Khan Leghari and Russian Minister for Transport Mr. Roman Starovoyt co-chaired the 9th session of Pakistan-Russia IGC.

Both sides exchanged views and positively assessed the prospects of expanding bilateral connectivity, which they pledged, would not only benefit Pakistan and Russia but the whole region.

Minister for Energy Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari led the Pakistani delegation at the talks, which underscored the growing cooperation between the two nations.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said, “Pakistan-Russia cooperation is progressing steadily, and these agreements will further deepen our collaboration in various sectors.”

Also, Sardar Awais Leghari appreciated the growing level of cooperation between Pakistan and Russia.

Pakistan and Russia sides took stock of all bilateral cooperation projects in the transport sector including road, rail and air. Minister Leghari invited Minister Starovoyt to visit Pakistan.

  • Pakistan and Russia agreed to continue contacts and enhance cooperation.

According to official sources, Pakistan and Russia inked eight agreements aimed at strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The agreements encompass a range of initiatives, including industrial cooperation and the production of insulin.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between New Tech, a Pakistani entity, and a Russian university to promote academic and technological exchange.

Agreement was also signed among Russia’s educational institutions, COMSAT and Peshawar University.

Minister Starovoyt was asked to visit Pakistan by Minister Leghari. The parties decided to improve collaboration and maintain communication.

The 9th Meeting of the Russia-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation concluded in Moscow.

The Co-Chairs of the IGC, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev and Pakistani Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, as well as experts from both sides noted the constructive nature of the bilateral political dialogue, including contacts at the highest level, as well as productive cooperation within international organizations.

The two sides expressed their readiness to implement the decisions of the IGC in a consistent manner.

Steps were agreed to prepare a roadmap for the construction of a new steel mills in Karachi. The meeting also saw the signing of 8 bilateral documents in the fields of energy, education, medicine and trade.

The sides agreed to hold the 10th Meeting of the IGC in Pakistan in 2025.

  •  Russia Pakistan foster parliamentary diplomacy in 2024

A delegation led by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq visited Russia from November 27 to December 1 to foster Pak-Russia relations through parliamentary diplomacy.

Meetings with top Russian officials, including the Chairman of the State Duma, focused on strengthening cooperation and signing key agreements.

  •  Pakistan, Russia sign historic agreement on legislative cooperation

Pakistan and Russia signed a historic Agreement between State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Cooperation in Moscow.

The Agreement was signed here in Moscow by Visiting Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker H.E. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and his counterpart Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq paid his respects to the fallen heroes of World War II by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow’s Alexander Garden today.

The solemn ceremony was attended by Vasily Piskarev, Chairman of the State Duma’s Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption.

Sadiq leading a delegation of Pakistani parliamentarians was on an official visit to Russia from November 27th to 29th, at the invitation of Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.

  • Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, visits Islamabad

In October 2024, Speaker of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, visited Islamabad and held meetings with top leadership of the country, including Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif.

Madam Matvienko conveyed best regards and best wishes to Prime Minister on behalf of President Vladimir Putin.

The two sides discussed topical global issues and further development of trade, economic and investment cooperation between Russia and Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his desire to consider reviving the USSR-built Karachi Steel Mills, which became a symbol of Russia-Pakistan friendship.

The Agreement aims to enhance ties between the two legislative bodies and establish permanent cooperation mechanisms through committees, commissions and parliamentary groups.
