Russia’s National Day Celebrations Held in Islamabad

Pakistani citizens have growing interest in the Russian language and culture: Ambassador Albert P. Khorev

Islamabad:  The Embassy of Russia in Pakistan, hosted a reception in celebration of Russia’s National Day on June 10, 2025, in the capital city Islamabad.

Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari was the chief guest of celebrations, held to advance Russia and Pakistan bilateral ties in new era.

Other notable figures who joined the celebration were; Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, parliamentarians, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Armed Forces of Pakistan, and Ambassadors of friendly countries accredited in Islamabad.

Addressing the guests, Ambassador Albert P. Khorev highlighted the steady development of Russia-Pakistan relations, which have seen tremendous growth in recent years.

Also, Ambassador Albert Khorev emphasized that Russia remains a sovereign, powerful, and resilient nation, driven by the unwavering support of its people.

The Russian Embassy in Pakistan would like to take this opportunity to extend its best wishes to the defenders of the Fatherland on their professional holiday.

Mentioning the cultural exchanges and developments, Russian envoy emphasized the growing interest among Pakistani citizens in the Russian language and culture.

President Asif Ali Zardari extended his sincere congratulations to President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Albert Khorev as well as to the people of Russia.

“On this significant occasion, Pakistan joins Russia in celebrating this National Day, reflecting our solidarity and friendship. I am glad to state that our bilateral relations have improved over the years, based on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared interests in various fields,” the president Zardari stated.

Recently, he said there have been extensive high-level interactions between the two countries that had laid the foundation for deeper engagement and understanding between the two nations. Pakistan and Russia also continue to cooperate closely on regional and international platforms, he added.

The president underlined that Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Tariq Fatimi had a very promising meeting with Russian Foreign Minister in Moscow early this month where both sides had underscored the importance of peace and stability in the region.

“I am confident that the bonds of friendship between Pakistan and Russia will continue to strengthen. As we celebrate this important occasion tonight, let us reaffirm our commitment to building bridges of understanding and cooperation between our two nations. Let us take hold of the opportunities that lie ahead and work together for a brighter and more prosperous future. Long Live Pakistan-Russia friendship,” President Zardari said.

Reflecting on the words of President Vladimir Putin, the Ambassador noted that Russia has historically played a unifying role in the region, stretching “from the Baltics to the Caucasus.”

The reception was enlivened by a performance from the duo “Bogema,” – Russian musicians Евгений Сопрунов Evgenii Soprunov (balalaika) and Kriss Kochmarik (violin) – who played a medley of Russian and international hits, including compositions about the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45.

Also, as part of the Russia Day celebration, the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) hosted a concert by the duo “Bogema”: Russian musicians Evgenii Soprunov (balalaika) and Kristina Kochmarik (violin).

The event attracted a large local audience — the hall was packed!

At the end of the evening, the Ambassador of Russia to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorev, thanked the audience and the PNCA management for their interest and hospitality.

Earlier, on June 3, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Syed Tariq Fatemi.

The officials discussed bilateral interaction as well as regional and international security. Syed Tariq Fatemi briefed Sergey Lavrov on Pakistan’s view of the current situation in Indo-Pakistani relations.

 The Russian minister stressed the importance of a direct dialogue and greater mutual trust between New Delhi and Islamabad. The sides highlighted the importance of building up joint efforts in the fight against all manifestations of terrorism at international venues, primarily the UN and the SCO.
