- Morocco, Turkey Sign Cooperation Deals in Renewable Energies, Green Energy, Clean Technologies
- Cooperation agreements will expand the horizon of common development between Morocco and Turkey
By: Muhammad ArifRabat: Morocco and Turkey, on Thursday, have signed two cooperation agreements in the fields of energy, geosciences and mining, a milestone deal aimed to expand the horizon of common development between Morocco and Turkey.
The Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources signed the agreements in the presence of Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, and Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar.
Official sources stated that the cooperation deal will cover the fields of renewable energies, green hydrogen, energy efficiency, electricity production and distribution, energy market integration, clean technologies, decarbonisation, and hydrocarbon exploration.
In the field of mining and geosciences, cooperation covers the production of geological maps, remote sensing, databases and GIS, artificial intelligence for mineral evaluation, geological research, post-mining management, seismic monitoring, management of strategic and critical minerals, and joint ventures for the exploration of energy and mineral products.
Furthermore, the two agreements establish a framework for cooperation to promote public-private partnerships, research and development, technical assistance, capacity building, exchange of expertise and technology, joint project development, collaboration between innovation agencies and research organisations, as well as technical visits, workshops and seminars.
During the signing ceremony, the two officials praised the quality of the fruitful bilateral relations that have witnessed tangible development over the past two decades under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This development has been manifested through numerous diplomatic and trade agreements, as well as through the exchange of expertise and experiences in various vital and complementary sectors.
The Turkish minister emphasised that there are “many opportunities and potentials for cooperation in the field of energy and mining between our two countries,” praising the historical and economic ties between the two countries. He also noted that the two countries face common challenges such as energy demand growth and ambitious climate targets.
For her part, Mrs Benali emphasised that the meeting was an opportunity to discuss common challenges between Morocco and Turkey, as well as prospects for growth and shared ambitions in several fields such as renewable energies, minerals and natural gas.
Mr Alparslan Bayraktar’s visit to Morocco comes within the framework of continuous consultation and coordination between the Kingdom and the Republic of Turkey, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations in various fields, exploring new opportunities for cooperation and encouraging mutual investments.
The meeting was attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Morocco and senior officials from the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and its affiliated bodies, including the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Minerals, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water, the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy, the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency, and the Research Institute for Solar and New Energies.
