Kuwait City: The Embassy of Pakistan in Kuwait organized ‘Pakistan Mango and Cultural Festival 2024’ at Avenues Mall, Kuwait on July 3, in collaboration with UN-HABITAT Kuwait Pakistan Embassy Kuwait and Islamabad Public Diplomacy Pakistan of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Pakistan Mango and Cultural Festival 2024 was held as part of the embassy economic diplomacy program aimed at showcasing Pakistan’s rich and flavourous fruit, the mango, also titled as ‘king of fruit’, for local and global public.
Pakistan Mango and Cultural Festival 2024 was attended by a large number of mango lovers from various walks of life, especially the diplomatic community of Kuwait, including parliamentarians, diplomats, Government officials, businesspersons, major retail owners, travel & food writers, media representatives, members of diaspora and friends of Pakistan.
Mango festival’s participants enjoyed the prominent varieties of Pakistani mangoes i.e Sunera, Fajri, Anwar Ratol, Desi, Chaunsa, White Chaunsa, Black Chaunsa, Lal Badhsa, Sindhri and Pallet, and appreciated the rich taste and vast variety of the Pakistani mangoes on display.
In his remarks at inaugural ceremony of mango festival, the Pakistan High Commissioner in Kuwait, said that flavor, aroma and richness of Pakistani mangoes are unique and delicious. Pakistan is the 6th largest producer and 4th largest exporter of mangoes, and has over 250 varieties of mangoes in country.
Diplomats appreciated the exquisite taste of Pakistani mangoes and its various dishes.
Mango festival is an initiative to promote trade between Pakistan and the Kuwait, which included export of Pakistani mangoes to the Kuwait and other GCC countries.
Pakistan’s export of mangoes stands around 0.13 to 0.16 million tons to 79 countries. The main mango exports of Pakistan go to Afghanistan, which is around 0.05 million metric tons, followed by the UAE, about 0.049 million metric tons, and Iran, approximately 0.030 to 0.035 million metric tons.
In 2024, the All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association has set a target of 100,000 metric tons of mango exports the current season. The export of mangoes commenced from May 20, 2024. With export of 100,000 metric ton of mangoes during FY2024, valuable foreign exchange of $90 million is likely to be generated.
Though major markets for mango exports are China, America, Turkey and Japan. Iran, Afghanistan and Central Asian states but markets such as the EU and the UK offer higher profitability through compliance with international standards of health and packaging.
If mangoes farmers are provided research-based solutions, such as new varieties of mangoes that are compatible with the climatic changes, Pakistan can boost foreign exchange through mango exports to the global high-end market.
