Beijing: Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi, will pay a visit to China from August 22 to 24, 2024, at the invitation of Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Chinese Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday.
the 5th Meeting of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Indonesia will be held in Beijing.
Both the Indonesian and Chinese foreign ministers will co-chair the meeting to review the bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
The First Senior Officials’ Meeting of Indonesia-China Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue (2+2 SOM) was held in Jakarta, on Aug 13, 2024.
Abdul Kadir Jailani, Director General of Asia-Pacific and African Affairs at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Brigadier General Oktaheroe Ramsi, Secretary Directorate General for Defense Strategy at the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, co-chaired the meeting.
“This meeting marks a new chapter in the comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and China. For the first time, we have held a joint dialogue to enhance cooperation in politics, defense, and security,” stated Director General Jailani. He further mentioned that the 2+2 SOM serves as a preparatory step for the Ministerial-level Dialogue, anticipated to take place in 2025.
During the meeting in Jakarta on 13/08, the PRC delegation was led by Sun Weidong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC and Major General Zhang Baoqun, Deputy Chief of the Office for International Military Cooperation of the Central Military Commission, PRC.
The discussions led to an agreement on capacity development cooperation for diplomats and joint military training between the two nations. Both countries also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation to maintain regional security and stability, prevent terrorism, and address transnational crimes.
The Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue (2+2) stems from the MoU agreed upon during President Joko Widodo’s visit to Beijing in October 2023. The 2+2 at the Ministerial level in 2025 will be a part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-PRC diplomatic relations, which have been established since April 13, 1950.
