DHAKA, July 15: Air China, national flag carrier of China, launched a direct flight linking Bangladeshi capital Dhaka with Beijing, capital of China on Wednesday, an initiative leading to establish the first ever capital to capital Silk Road connectivity between Bangladesh and China.
To mark the event, an inaugural ceremony was held at the departure lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital, with attendance minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, the programme as the chief guest.
The direct flight from Dhaka to Beijing will add a new dimension to trade expansion between Bangladesh and China, said Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Muhammad Faruk Khan while speaking at the inauguration ceremony.
“The flight is a testament to the friendship, cooperation, development, and growing connectivity between Bangladesh and China”, minister further added.
“As a result of this flight, the people of our country, businessmen and students will be able to travel directly to Beijing. The benefits will also be seen in tourism and other business sectors,” said the minister.
Country manager of Air China in Bangladesh, An Ming in his remarks said “We are thrilled to successfully launch this new route, which underscores the strengthening bilateral relations between China and Bangladesh”.
“This new service will not only facilitate travel but also promote trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between our two countries,” An added.
Air China will operate four weekly flights on this route, with services available on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Air China, as a national flag carrier of China, is committed to providing passengers with exceptional service and a seamless travel experience. The new Dhaka-Beijing route offers more convenient options for travellers, said a release.
The direct flights depart from Dhaka at 10:10 pm and reach the Capital Airport in Beijing in over five hours.
Liu Yuan, Charge d’Affaires of Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, Air Commodore Sadikur Rahman Chowdhury, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, Group Captain Md Kamrul Islam, Executive Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and HVM Lutfor Rahman, Chairman of Irving Group, Global Sales Agent of Air China in Bangladesh were also present on the occasion.
