Islamabad:  President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, will arrive on Wednesday in Islamabad for a two-day official visit, aimed at fostering the bilateral cooperative partnership.

During the visit, President of Azerbaijan will hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, stated Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch.

The two sides will engage in wide-ranging discussions on areas of mutual interest to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be hosted by Azerbaijan in Nov 2024, creating a favorable opportunity for new areas of cooperation in the domain climate change between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

During the visit of President, Ilham Aliyev, several Agreements and MoUs are expected to be signed.

The visit of the Azeri President reflects the robust cooperation and leadership-level dialogue between the two countries.

“The two sides will engage in wide-ranging discussions on areas of mutual interest in order to further strengthen bilateral cooperation,” she said in a statement. “Several Agreements and MoUs (memorandums of understanding) are expected to be signed during the visit”, sated Foreign Office.

Also, Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, said the visit by the Azerbaijan president visit reflects “robust cooperation and leadership-level dialogue” between the two countries.

During the last meeting between the Azerbaijan leader, PM Sharif had said his country valued deep-rooted cultural, historical and religious ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Both the parties will discuss opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, energy, tourism, education, science and culture, transport, and defense.

In addition, talks will also focus on strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation under the Azerbaijan-Pakistan-Turkey tripartite cooperation format.

Earlier, on May 30, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif within the framework of his official visit to Pakistan.

During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of strategic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan and emphasized the importance of high-level mutual visits, as well as mutual support within the framework of international organizations.

On May 31, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov held meeting in Islamabad and agreed to enhance Azerbaijan Pakistan cooperation in trade, investment, energy, security and defence, education, climate action and regional connectivity.

The two Ministers reviewed progress on bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global developments.

Also both sides agreed to enhance parliamentary exchanges, strengthen cultural cooperation and promote people-to-people exchanges including between students, academia and businessmen.

The two sides agreed to identify new areas of economic cooperation and bolster cooperation in climate action and renewable energy sector and increase bilateral investments especially in the energy sector.

They also noted the critical importance of Joint working Group on Energy in promoting cooperation in the energy sector.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed Pakistan’s full support to Azerbaijan during its presidency of COP29.

Ishaq Dar and Foreign Minister Bayramov discussed bilateral cooperation at multilateral fora and regional and global developments.
