Cairo: Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development opened on Tuesday in Cairo city of Egypt, amid high-level regional and international presence.
Mr. Sameh Shukri, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, opened the fourth edition of the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development, under the theme “Africa in a changing world… “Reimagining global governance for peace and development “here on Tuesday.
Mr. Musa Faqih, Chairman of the African Union Commission, and Mr. Ahmed Abu Al-Ghait, Secretary General of the Arab Nations University and several African ministers and high-level delegations from officials of the African Union and the United Nations, as well as representatives of the most important regional and international organizations related to peace and security issues, as well as a number of dignitaries Egyptian, regional, international personalities, development partners, thinkers, journalists, media personalities and researchers.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, stated that in his opening speech, Mr. Sameh Shukri confirmed that the forum, which is being held under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, has self-established since its inauguration in 2019 during Egypt’s presidency of the African Union.

Throughout the subsequent edition, as a pioneering ceremony that addresses the complex threats facing the African continent, it contributes to reaching common insights on ways to meet these challenges, namely by supporting conflict prevention, peacebuilding efforts and documenting the relationship between peace and sustainable development, as well as highlighting the value of partnerships, based on several principles on respect National ownership, sovereignty and mutual benefit.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the Foreign Minister pointed out that the forum is being held this year at a precise time in which the region and the world as a whole, is witnessing the challenges of the body, and unprecedented reconciliation of wars, conflicts and widespread humanitarian crises, which imposes the necessity to build African countries with a comprehensive vision to meet the challenges of ladder, security and development.

The fourth edition of the forum coincides with the approaching “Summit of the Future” next September in New York, which is an important occasion to rethink the crystal of a new international system more adapted to the challenges of escalating ladder and security that are affecting the development course, as well as the fourth edition coincides with the twentieth anniversary to establish the African Peace and Security Council, it gains added importance.
As Mr. Sameh Shukri mentioned in his speech, the fourth edition of the Forum will witness the launch of initiatives that enhance African ownership for ladder and security efforts, including the creation of a new African network to prevent extremism leading to terrorism, the labor centers in the field will gather together in order to strengthen cooperation among them.
I also announced the award of the “Aswan Forum” for Reconstruction and Development, which will be presented for the first time to one of the promising African models in appreciation of their efforts in building peace in the African continent, as part of the leadership of H.E. President El-Sisi for the post-conflict reconstruction and development portfolio in the African Union.
On the other hand, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Mr. Foreign Minister participated in the first thematic session of the forum under the theme “Distant worlds… Linking peace, security, and development in a torn world”, in which Mr. Musa Faqih, Chairman of the African Union Commission, Mr. Ahmed Abu Al-Ghait, Secretary General of the Arab Nations University, Mr. Christophe Huisgen, Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, and moderated by Dr. Comfort Irwo, Chairman of the International Crisis Group, had the opportunity to have an in-depth dialogue on A fine political level on the state of fog, uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, polarization and double standards that represent the characteristics of the current international landscape, and ways to deal with the shortcomings of global governance to meet the challenges posed by the region and the world as a whole.
In his intervention, the Minister of Foreign Affairs reviewed a number of crises that African countries are experiencing, and the importance of regional and international efforts to support promoting security and stability in the continent, stating that Egypt sees the importance of applying the African Solutions principle to African problems, away from foreign interventions that contribute to complicating the situation in some African countries.
Regarding the Sudanese crisis, the minister Shukri reviewed Egypt’s efforts and its ongoing efforts to stop the war in Sudan. Emphasizing that any genuine political solution in Sudan must be based on a pure Sudanese vision emanating from the Sudanese themselves without spelling or pressure from any external parties, and in consultation with the drafts of active international and regional institutions. He emphasized the importance of addressing the crisis from its roots by reaching a comprehensive political solution to preserve the interests and values of the Sudanese people, and the security and stability of the region as a whole.
