Kazakhstan takes a responsible approach to climate change obligations and plans to take an active part in the work of COP29, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said today at the Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Shusha, Report informs.

    According to Tokayev, quoted by his press service, climate change management is of great importance. At the same time, the Kazakh president cited expert forecasts about an 80% probability that the increase in average temperature in the world will reach 1.5 degrees Celsius.

    “The situation is getting more complicated. Abnormal heat, forest fires, droughts and floods occurring in various parts of the world confirm this trend. We are ready to strengthen cooperation with the Turkic world on climate issues. This year we plan to take an active part in the COP29 climate conference, which will be held in Azerbaijan. Kazakhstan takes a responsible approach to climate change obligations,” Tokayev said.

    He also added that in 2026, Kazakhstan will hold a Regional Climate Summit under the auspices of the UN.

    “I am confident that our Turkic brothers will take an active part in its work,” he emphasized.

    The President of Kazakhstan also called for joint efforts to solve the environmental problems of the Caspian and Aral Seas: “We noted the importance of increasing the logistics potential of the Caspian Sea. At the same time, it is unacceptable to ignore its environmental issues. The sea is on the verge of extinction. The most important task is to protect its environment, flora and fauna. It is necessary to develop specific solutions aimed at saving the Caspian Sea. The time has come to intensify the interaction of scientists from Turkic countries,” he noted.
