Boao, Hainan: Ban Ki-moon, Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) has visited the BFA Secretariat for discussions over the preparations for the Forum’s 2025 Annual Conference, starting from March 25 to 28 in Boao, Hainan Province of South China.

BFA Secretariat, Secretary-General Zhang Jun briefed Ban Ki-moon on the progress of the annual conference preparations. He emphasized that as the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, the resurgence of unilateralism and protectionism in 2025 brings more challenges to global stability and economic recovery.

As challenges and risks increase, worries and anxieties have further intensified in international community. Against this backdrop, the 2025 BFA Annual Conference holds significant immediate and long-term implications. The theme of this year’s conference, “Asia in the Changing World: Towards a Shared Future,” is highly relevant to major issues and challenges presented by the times. It helps us steer the course of development, foster solidarity and cooperation, and pursue shared development.

The annual conference is designed to focus a range of pressing global and regional issues and challenges, covering key topics such as global governance, economic globalization, regional integration, the Global South, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, climate change, and sustainable development. These events will adopt diverse formats, including plenary sessions, high-level dialogues, roundtables and corporate dialogues, enabling participants to share insights, propose solutions, and foster consensus and mutual trust.

The conference has garnered widespread attention, bringing together top minds from all around the world, include political leaders from China and abroad, heads of international organizations, scholars from universities and think tanks, as well as business leaders.

It is anticipated that this year’s conference will yield positive outcomes, delivering a strong message to the international community of maintaining confidence, overcoming challenges, strengthening cooperation, and charting a path toward shared development and a brighter future. Asia is leading the world in various areas, presenting a bright future. Asia has a good reason to be more confident about the future of the world, and the world has a better reason to be confident about the future of Asia.

Chairman Ban spoke highly of the Forum’s accomplishments and fully affirmed the progress in preparations. He emphasized that the international community increasingly looks to Asia to play a more proactive role in promoting global stability and sustainable development amid mounting challenges. He stated that as the most influential multilateral platform in Asia, BFA will remain steadfast in championing economic globalization and multilateralism under current transformations. He anticipated with full conviction that this year’s annual conference would yield fruitful outcomes, strengthen solidarity and mutual trust, catalyze dialogue and cooperation, and inject positive energy into global stability and economic development.
